Parent Society & School Council Annual General Meeting
Wednesday, October 21 | 6:00 PM | Virtual/Online
Please join the meeting here on Wednesday, October 21.
We encourage all parents and guardians to get involved with our School Council. Council meets monthly online for 60 minutes, focusing on fundraising and providing opportunities for parents to share their voices with school administrators. These meetings are a great way to stay connected and learn more about what is happening at the school.
About School Council and the Parent Society
School Council is incorporated under the Societies Act for the purpose of raising funds for the school.
The Parent Society/School Council Annual General Meeting is held each year to elect positions for both the School Council executive and the Parent Society.
Executive positions include:
- President: Creates the agenda and chairs meetings.
- Vice-President: Acts on behalf of the President when they are unavailable.
- Secretary: Takes and distributes meeting minutes.
- Treasurer: Manages bookkeeping and accounting for School Council funds.
- Key Communicator: Attends meetings organized by the CBE and relays information to School Council.
Please consider joining us online to vote or volunteer to let your name stand for a vacant position on either executive.
Fees
Fees have been applied to students’ accounts and are now due.
Fees help cover the gap between the cost of programs and services and the funding provided by the province. The Government of Alberta’s School Fee Regulation sets out the requirements and limitations related to the fees a school board may charge.
School fees for the year are confirmed at the end of August. Fee revenue does not go toward core instructional funding or central administration costs. By law, the CBE cannot charge fees related to instruction, such as textbooks, workbooks, or printing.
The CBE charges fees only to cover the cost of providing goods or experiences to students. For example, if a field trip costs $20 for busing and admission, only that cost is billed to families. Fees are charged only when the cost of delivering a service, such as transportation, exceeds the funding received from the province.
Families who cannot afford school fees may qualify for a fee waiver.
Fall Sports
Basketball
Basketball games are underway! We would like to share our spectator expectations and policies to help ensure a safe, caring, and welcoming environment for everyone attending games at Dr. Egbert and other CBE schools.
We value participation and skill development over winning. We also remind all spectators that teachers, coaches, and student helpers volunteer their time.
Spectator Expectations and Policy
- Student spectators from other schools will not be granted access to DGME or its gym unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Accompanied student spectators may enter the gym with their parent or guardian to watch their school compete.
- Student spectators must remain in the gym unless using the washroom. There are no in-and-out privileges.
- Student spectators are expected to cheer in a positive manner.
- Student spectators must leave when their parent or guardian leaves.
- Student spectators who are dropped off without a parent or guardian will not be given access to the building.
- Inappropriate behaviour by a student spectator will be addressed by school administration. If it occurs a second time, the student and their parent or guardian will be directed to leave. Depending on the issue, a trespass warning may be issued to the student.
- Inappropriate behaviour by a parent, guardian, or family member will be addressed immediately by school administration. If it occurs a second time, the game will be stopped, and the individual will be directed to leave the gym and school. If they refuse or cause further issues, their team will forfeit the game. Depending on the issue, a trespass warning may be issued.
Thank you for helping create a respectful, welcoming, and caring environment for our school community and athletes.
